This month’s meeting will be half and half lecture and a Q & A session for us to ask what is new in oncology. It will also include a general PVMA meeting component 15 minutes prior to the lecture, see details bellow. Topic: What's new in oncology? Speakers: Dr. Sarah Gillings & Dr. Callanan Dr. Sarah Gillings is one of Summit's founders. Her clinical training includes veterinary school at the University of Minnesota and an internship in private practice in upstate NY followed by 6 years in private practice before landing an Oncology residency at North Carolina State University. She enjoys working with DVMs and clients to help structure individualized treatment plans for pets. In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Gillings has a strong interest in leadership and supporting teams, and is the current president of the ACVIM. She has perfect cats and enjoys gardening, cooking, wineries and hiking/biking. Dr. Callanan was born and raised in Wicklow, Ireland but spent the majority of her adult life in Saint Louis, Missouri. She completed her veterinary training at the University of Missouri followed by an internship at the University of Tennessee and residency in Medical Oncology at Oregon State University. As a veterinary oncologist, Dr. Gabrielle Callanan’s goal is to provide information regarding prognosis, available treatment options, and ways to enhance quality of life during what can often be an emotionally challenging time. She enjoys working with veterinarians and owners to determine the best diagnostic and treatment plans for their pets. Dr. Callanan’s clinical interests include cancers of the respiratory system, hematopoietic cancers (lymphoma, leukemia), tumors of the bone, and enhancing the quality of life for cancer patients. Outside of work, you can find her trying new recipes, caring for her garden, and exploring the natural wonders of the Pacific Northwest. In other other news! This upcoming meeting will also include our annual General Meeting, this will occur approximately 15 minutes prior to the lecture time. The General Meeting is a time for members to bring up motions, board members to discuss upcoming events or important news as well as a quick intro for the new year. Washington state has also implemented new requirements about health equity continuing education. It's for all health care providers, including veterinarians. It's 2 hours every 4 years for both veterinarians and veterinary technicians. It starts as of January 2024. We will be offering at least 1 hour of CE on this topic towards the end of the year to be in compliance.
